Additional Practical Information for Tenants
Our goal is to create a clear, transparent and respectful rental experience for both tenants and owners.
Being informed from the start helps everyone enjoy a smooth and worry-free stay.

1️⃣ Ventilation & Humidity (Important in Paris)
Parisian buildings, especially older ones, require regular ventilation.
We kindly ask tenants to:
-
open windows daily, even in winter,
-
ventilate kitchens and bathrooms after use.
This helps prevent humidity, mould and pest issues, and is part of normal tenant responsibility.
2️⃣ Use of Furniture & Floors
Most apartments feature wooden floors and furnished interiors.
Please:
-
avoid dragging furniture,
-
use felt pads under chair legs,
-
clean floors with appropriate products only.
Normal wear is expected, but care is essential to preserve the apartment.
3️⃣ Waste & Recycling
Paris has strict rules for waste disposal.
Tenants must:
-
separate household waste and recycling,
-
use designated bins,
-
respect collection schedules in the building.
Incorrect disposal can result in building fines.
4️⃣ Quiet Hours & Neighbours
Parisian buildings are often residential and shared.
Please be mindful of:
-
evening and night-time noise,
-
common areas (stairs, hallways, courtyard).
Respect for neighbours is essential and expected.
5️⃣ Utilities & Energy Use
Electricity is often billed separately.
Tenants should:
-
monitor energy consumption responsibly,
-
switch off heating and lights when not in use,
-
report any technical issues promptly.
6️⃣ Maintenance & Reporting Issues
If any issue arises during the stay:
-
report it promptly to Montmartre Apartments,
-
do not attempt repairs without authorisation.
Early communication helps avoid escalation and additional costs.
7️⃣ Pests & Building Characteristics
Occasional pests (such as silverfish) can appear in Parisian buildings, especially in humid environments.
This is rarely linked to tenant behaviour alone, but:
-
good ventilation and cleanliness help reduce risks.
-
avoiding drying laundry indoors without ventilation.
-
regular cleaning, especially in corners and along skirting boards
-
any sightings should be reported promptly.
8️⃣ Keys & Security
-
Keys must not be copied or shared without permission,
-
lost keys must be reported immediately,
-
tenants are responsible for replacement costs if applicable.
9️⃣ Bathroom & Drain Care – Important Information
To help prevent blockages and unnecessary plumbing interventions, we kindly ask tenants to take basic care of bathroom drains, particularly shower and sink outlets.
Hair accumulation is the most common cause of blockages in bathroom drains and is considered part of regular tenant maintenance.
Please note:
-
Hair should be removed regularly from shower and sink drains
-
Drain covers or strainers should be used where provided
-
Only toilet paper should be flushed in the toilet
(no wipes, paper towels, sanitary products, or similar items)
If a blockage occurs due to hair or improper use, the cost of plumbing intervention may be charged to the tenant, as this does not fall under normal building maintenance.
Simple, regular upkeep helps avoid inconvenience for everyone and ensures smooth use of the apartment throughout your stay.
1️⃣0️⃣ Check-Out Expectations
A professional cleaning service is organised after your departure.
However, we kindly ask tenants to leave the apartment in a reasonable and orderly condition before check-out.
Before departure, please ensure that:
-
all personal belongings have been removed,
-
the refrigerator is emptied,
-
trash and recycling have been taken out,
-
dishes are washed and put away,
-
the apartment is left generally tidy and uncluttered.
These steps help ensure a smooth check-out process and allow our cleaning team to work efficiently.
Thank you for your cooperation and for taking care of the apartment during your stay.
